Living the Vision, Mount Sion 2009 : Day 3

Objective C : Reflect on this wisdom and learnings
with a view to plotting a way forward
for the whole network at international level.

Send your light and fidelity, that they may be my guide and bring me to your holy mountain – a line taken from Psalm 43, part of the prayer prepared and led by the North American delegates on Day 3 at Mount Sion.

During the morning sessions we learned of the ongoing development of the ERN in Oceania - a well organized and structured network. (Paul Robertson, Steve McLaughlin and Danny Moore).

Anne Barry-Murphy invited us - by throwing around a 'slither' to wonder if we were to liken the ERN to a sport or a game, what it would be ...
. The European province shared its hopes in directing the energies of over 200 network members who attended a gathering in April 2009 at Emmaus, Swords. Special attention was given to Edmund Rice Camps which has become an important program for the young people of the European Province. (Kevin Barry, Jean Marsh, Martin O'Flaherty and Honora Fleming). The network in Latin America spans 5 countries. Despite being one of the smaller regions, Paul and Gaston shared news of a wealth of ministry and outreach activity carried out by the committed members of the ERN.
(Paul Keohane and Gaston Richelet)
We also received two special reports.
The first was from Anne Murphy-Barry who told us of the Presentation Family – our companion network in the Presentation tradition. ‘Quality of relationship’ emerged as the underlying characteristic of the Presentation Family and we were shown, through a comprehensive range of network groups that, from ‘womb to tomb’, there is a place for everyone to belong.
The second report was made by Brian Bond from Edmund Rice International.
A moving video explaining the structure, function and mission of ERI was shown. Brian expressed his hopes that the ERN will use its global network and involvement at the United Nations level to redress human rights abuses.
After lunch we revisited the pre-reading set by the organising committee – Report on the ERN (to the Munnar Chapter), Put out into the Deep and Beyond the Comfort Zone.
These documents written in 2001, 2002 and 2008 showed an evolution in thinking around the Edmund Rice Network and networking.
We shared our insights through an Emmaus walk and circle sharing. The ensuing whole-group discussion confirmed for some and confounded others… The group was offered a tour of the very impressive heritage centre which vividly immerses the pilgrim in the story and life of Edmund Rice.
A long day meant we appreciated the evening meal. With still enough energy for the washing up!
In the evening we experienced Taize prayer with the combined Waterford and Omagh Peace Choirs.
The voices were quite beautiful ... you can see it in Andy's and Francis' faces.
Steve and Martin could feel the Spirit movin' ... ... as did Noel, Neville and Kevin.
