English Language Summer School:
Following the success of last year’s English Language Summer School, the ISU will run the English Language Summer School again this year. The aim of the English Language Summer School is to provide continued English Language support to young people of Foreign National background who are in most need.
The Summer School Programme will take place from Monday 5th to Friday 16th of July. The format will be the same as last years, morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session will involve 3 hours of formal English Language tuition and 2 hours of games/activities in the afternoon.

Immigration and Parenting in Ireland:
The ISU will host a seminar on “Immigration and Parenting” in November, this seminar will aim at exploring and identifying issues, difficulties and challenges Immigrant face parenting in Ireland. The overall objective of this seminar will be to support Immigrant parents to adopt the best practice acceptable for parenting in Ireland while maintaining their cultural identity. Seminar will involve migrant parents and practitioners. Date for this seminar will be confirmed shortly.
Association of Integration Practitioners:
The ISU is currently working on establishing an Association of Integration Practitioners. This association is aimed at bringing together Organisations and agencies which who have continuous involvement with New Communities (Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Migrant Workers). Responsibilities for this association will include developing models of best practice for the client group, identifying needs and trainings where relevant. Sr. Kathleen nominated for Ireland Involved Award
Sister Kathleen co-ordinates voluntary English language and literacy for asylum seekers in Waterford city and county. As this target group are not eligible for educational support and training through the usual mainstream channels, she ensures that these vulnerable people living in direct provision centres have the very best start to integration while awaiting decisions on their asylum applications. As a retired principal she always puts her students first, assisting them with access to available services and supports....
Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) Art Competition
The ISU hosted an event on Thursday 15th October in support of the campaign to fight against racism in football. Football is the biggest sport in the world and belongs to us all. It should be the right of every person to play, watch and discuss freely, without fear. Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) was established to fight all forms of discrimination and racism in football both in the stadium, on the pitch, in the changing room, at the training ground, in the office and classroom; by fans, players, managers, coaches, administrators or educators.
