Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) Art Competition

The ISU hosted an event on Thursday 15th October in support of the campaign to fight against racism in football. Football is the biggest sport in the world and belongs to us all. It should be the right of every person to play, watch and discuss freely, without fear. Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) was established to fight all forms of discrimination and racism in football both in the stadium, on the pitch, in the changing room, at the training ground, in the office and classroom; by fans, players, managers, coaches, administrators or educators. The idea behind the FARE Action Week is that a wide range of initiatives and activities address local problems within clubs, schools and community initiatives, while also joining groups across the continent to present a unified stand against racism and discrimination in the game.

The ISU invited local primary schools to take part, as part of this campaign, each school was asked to involve their 6th class pupil in designing an “Anti Racism in Sports Poster” Competition. The poster is to encourage pupils to be creative in highlighting the issue of racism in all types of sports; each student can work on any theme to do with racism in sports. Each School judged and forwarded their two best posters for inclusion in the overall schools competition. In total, four primary schools in Waterford namely Gaelscoil Philib Barun, Waterpark, Mount Sion and St Ursula’s Primary Schools took part in this project; the pupils put huge effort working on this project.
