This is a centre of welcome that expresses the spirit of Blessed Edmund Rice and promotes that spirit in all dimensions of its activities.
Edmund Rice International Heritage Centres Ltd is a limited company created under Irish law. The company is wholly owned by the two Congregations founded by Edmund Rice: the Presentation Brothers and the Christian Brothers. Seven members of the company are appointed by the Leadership Teams of the two Congregations. These members in turn appoint Directors of the Board which is granted powers by the members to meet objectives. These powers and objectives are set out in an Instrument of Management.
Preamble
The Edmund Rice Heritage Centre at Mt Sion in Waterford is indeed holy ground. It was here that Blessed Edmund Rice founded his brotherhood: Christian Brothers and Presentation Brothers and began his great mission of “raising the poor”. For over 200 years, Brothers and lay colleagues have continued that mission in the liberating education of the young. What began in Mount Sion continues today on all 6 continents.

For over two hundred years, young people have come to Mount Sion to experience education in the tradition of Edmund Rice. Many people oppressed by poverty or injustice have experienced new life and hope in this place. Mount Sion has been relevant to people's lives. It has served God's people well.
The values incarnated here over two centuries need radical expression in this new world. These values are love, truth, justice, the search for wisdom, knowledge and the liberation of people. |
